Abu Dhabi, 04.03.2025 – Drone Champions League (DCL) is launching its 2025 season with major changes that will reshape drone racing. The new season introduces a completely new league format built around three premier cups that combine virtual and live racing. This innovative structure, along with targeted initiatives, is designed to boost both top pilots and emerging talent.
Reimagined League Format and Major Competitions
This season, DCL introduces a new league structure built around three key cups: The Falcon Cup, Eagle Cup, and Hawk Cup – each offering its own set of challenges and rewards. Spanning 14 matches per cup with two race premieres each week on DCL’s YouTube channel, the format creates a continuous cycle of competition that keeps teams on their toes. The top four teams from each cup will advance to the finals, setting the stage for high-stakes competition. This tripartite structure not only sharpens the competitive edge by providing multiple points of contention but also maintains fan engagement over an extended period. Additionally, DCL’s development of a Second League offers amateur teams a separate platform to gain experience and prove their abilities, further deepening the overall competitive landscape of the season.
Innovative Challenges and STEM Initiatives
In a bold move to drive technological innovation, DCL is also launching the A2RL x DCL $1M AI Drone Challenge – the largest AI-driven drone racing event ever, complete with a $1M prize pool. This challenge is set to redefine the role of technology in the sport and deliver an electrifying racing spectacle. This historic event will also test human vs. AI racing, setting a new standard for the future of intelligent drone sports. Complementing the competition, the A2RL x DCL Drone STEM Program is now underway, offering hands-on training in drone technology, data handling, and innovation for aspiring young people. This initiative equips them with essential 21st-century skills, preparing the next generation for successful careers in a rapidly evolving digital world and highlighting DCL’s commitment to youth empowerment.
Shaping the Future: A Bold Vision for Drone Racing
DCL’s 2025 season is set to raise the bar in drone racing by combining digital and live competitions with innovative challenges. This approach is designed to empower both experienced pilots and emerging talent, driving the sport forward with clear, measurable progress.
“2025 is set to be a transformative year for drone racing,” stated Markus Stampfer, Executive Chairman of DCL. “Our new season format combines virtual and live competitions with groundbreaking challenges and initiatives that empower both experienced pilots and new talent. We are excited to provide a platform that drives innovation and inspires the future of the sport.”
